Lettings is the safer option

The latest RIC residential lettings survey expressed increased tenant demand and rising yields on rental properties.

The lettings market has seen a familiar picture of rising rents, improved yields and increased tenant demand in the three months leading up to October.
The survey revealed that tenants now see renting as the safer option. The supply of the rental property to the market cannot keep up with the increased demand even with the number of new landlords rising in the same three month period.
Family homes in particular have now moved over to the lettings market becoming accidental landlords after unsuccessful sales campaigns.
RICS spokesperson James Scott-Lee said: “The disappointing economic message communicated by the Chancellor in his Autumn Statement and the prospect of further job losses in some sectors and areas over those previously envisaged is likely to continue to underpin the residential lettings market in the near term.”
